My wife's maiden name was Turner and we have traced her family back to around 1800. They all lived in East Devon and some members of the family still do.

A Great Grandfather was James TURNER born Woodbury 24th may 1835. He married in Ottery St.Mary on 16th April, 1865. They had a grocers shop in Ottery St Mary.
His son Albert James TURNER was born in Mill Street, Ottery St Mary on 11th Aug.1867. He married at Tipton St John Parish Church in January 1895.

The family then farmed, were wheelwrights, journeymen, carpenters etc. in Metcombe over many years.

There is now only one Turner living in the Metcombe. Having visited the area over many years we visited churches and family members.
